Across the River

This painting began as a plein air pencil sketch at the big tree end of Sannie Badenhorst Street in Stanford. I’d been on the lookout for something less obvious to draw down at the river.

The red roof caught my eye, and as the late afternoon sun hit the mountain it echoed a more subdued pink patch up on the mountain. I was back the next day with paint to give it a go in colour.

I completed this painting on my stoep studio, from some reference sketches and a photograph I took on the first day.
